13th Annual Garden Deva Sculpture Company Open Studio Arts Festival – Tulsa OK
Showcasing Tulsa’s Creative Skills
Friday, November 2, 10a-8p
Saturday, November 3, 10a-6p
Every year, Lisa Regan (Tulsa’s Garden DEVA) invites all of her closest friends (I’m on that list) to an open studio party where we can shop for holiday gifts from local artists. It’s a “not to miss” party in midtown Tulsa, especially if you like to rub elbows with the artsy-fartsy crowd. Lisa brings in good food, libations and music to make our shopping more fun. Bring a credit card, ’cause you’re going to want to buy a lot!
WHERE: 317 S. Trenton Ave. – on Trenton Ave. between 3rd and 4th Streets
WHEN: Friday, Nov. 2nd, 10am to 8pm and Saturday, Nov. 3rd, 10am to 6pm
WHY: To celebrate and support local art, music, and food
The Garden Deva Gallery is located one block west of Utica Avenue on Trenton, between 3rd and 4th Streets. They are open Monday thru Friday 8am to 4pm and Saturdays 10am to 2pm.
I’ve written about Lisa and Garden Deva before, as it’s my favorite place to shop in all of Tulsa. Plus, Lisa donates much back to the community, and I like to keep my money in motion, if you know what I mean.
Always free to enter – patrons will be able to view and purchase the unique wares from over 40 local artisans, enjoy live local music from over 20 acts, throw back some free libations, and taste some of Tulsa’s best mobile foods!
In addition to hosting artisans with works such as jewelry, sculpture, painting, photography, ceramics, knits, soaps & oils, in their colorful gallery; Garden Deva will be taking the party to the street with an outdoor selection of vendors as well.
The holiday season is right around the corner, and this is an excellent way to get out and enjoy the fresh fall air, support our local artisans, and get your favorite someone a one-of-a-kind gift!
Be possessed of the patience and stability to keep on moving in the directions of your dreams.
About the artist, Lisa
In 1991, with the help of some wonderful farm boys, car mechanics and body shop guys, I was able to use my first torch. I designed, cut out, exhibited and sold my first ever ‘Deva’. I was instantly in love with the medium of recycled steel. I found absolute beauty in rusty patinas and old car springs.
I began my journey on the same course as most every other artist I know-I worked a full time pantyhose job, managed my home and family (4 awesome sons) and made art in every other available moment.
In 1996, I formally opened my studio, selling wholesale, attending art and garden sales regionally and employing magical and creative help to assist me.
Garden Deva studio has evolved into a space for me to create and assemble my work from small Devas that are offered through our website to large gates, fences and furniture. We also house other artists in the iron working fields of welding and blacksmithing.
Background ~ Garden Deva Sculpture Company
Garden Deva Sculpture Company was formed in 1996 by Lisa Regan, a Tulsa native. Lisa has traveled all over the country showcasing her sculptures in galleries, public and private commissions, art festivals, and museums – letting people know that creative things are happening here in Tulsa! Nearly two decades ago, Lisa decided to take a leap of faith and quit her full-time “9 to 5 pantyhose” job to follow a dream. Forging her way in a traditionally male trade, and growing her company from a one-woman-show to a crew of family and close friends,
Lisa has come a long way since ’96 – purchasing her first studio/gallery in 2001 and later expanding to a larger metal shop/gallery in 2007; being featured on nationally syndicated programs such as ‘Gardening by the Yard’ with Paul James and ‘That’s Clever’ on HGTV; as well as being featured in national publications Better Homes and Gardens: Garden Shed and Southern Living (in which her gallery was listed as #4 of the ‘Top 100 Places to Shop’) magazines.
Local elementary school students are delighted by her work in their school halls, library patrons enjoy her whimsical pieces in many branches of the Tulsa City-County Library System, and art connoisseurs of all types have enjoyed her large public sculpture on permanent display in the Philbrook Museum gardens. Most recently, in October 2012, Garden Deva was selected by the Brady Craft Alliance to create sculptural signage for the Turkey Mountain hiking and bike trails.
No admission for the November 2012 event and please do bring a friend!!
