Tulsa’s Master Gardener Showcase Garden Tour 2012
This weekend, five Tulsa Master Gardeners will showcase their work in homes across Tulsa. The Tour begins Saturday June 9th from 9am to 5pm and continues Sunday from 11:30am to 5pm. Tickets are available at the Extension Office at 4116 East 15th Street for $5 prior to the event or can be purchased for $7.50 at the individual homes. 
Urban Garden, 2548 East 18th Street, Lewiston Gardens, midtown Tulsa – this garden features Oklahoma Native plants, herbs, raised vegetable beds, raspberries, beehives and a chicken coop. I really want to check this garden out because I like the idea of an edible garden. This particular Master Gardener is developing more raised beds and dwarf fruit trees. This garden is an example of edible gardens mixed with colorful flowers.
Woodland Garden, 1247 East 24th Place, midtown Tulsa – this garden is a mixture of ornamental shrubs, hostas, caladiums and many shade plants. Also annuals requiring sun including phlox, asters, daisies, daylilies and grasses are highlighted. This garden features Container gardening demonstrations on the patio at 10am and 2pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday.
Transitional Garden, 3749 East 43rd Street – many areas of Tulsa have gone through a transitional period since losing many trees (and shade) in a severe ice storm a few years ago. This particular garden suffered the loss of a giant Elm, utilities excavation and new drainage issues. This garden will feature crocus, daffodils, ornamental shrubs, trees and perennials. Information on landscape design, plant material selection and tree pruning will be available.
Water Garden, 4927 East 97th Street – if you’re considering adding a Koi pond and waterfall, you must stop by this garden. The outdoor living area sounds like a perfect haven, complimented with a raised bed filled with ornamental shrubs, perennials and containers of annuals. Also found are a compost area and arboretum. Information on composting and building a water garden will be available.
Collectors Garden, 5641 East 97th Street – this garden includes many annuals, perennials and Oklahoma natives to attract birds, butterflies and beneficial insects. A novel new vertical garden will be on display. Information on butterfly gardening, OK Proven and Oklahoma native plants and gardening year-round will be available.
OSU Extension Center Demo Garden, 4116 East 15th Street – always open to the public, this garden does have new plantings this year. Enjoy the self-guided tour and view the labeled plants and plant lists.
