Open and Light: A Kitchen That Flows Into the Home
We are discovering more and more that we are drawn to kitchens without upper cabinets. Take a look at this kitchen, for instance. It’s so open, so bright, and it flows together so nicely with the adjacent dining room. We could hang out in this kitchen all day long!
We didn’t even realize until we had looked at these photos a few times that this kitchen felt so open and light because it didn’t have any upper cabinets. This helps it flow more naturally into the dining room, and feel integrated into the rest of the home. It also leaves room for huge banks of windows that let light stream into the kitchen. The owners even tiled the floor with a warm, lovely set of colors and patterns that are meant to echo the feel of an area rug.
The kitchen makes up for the storage it loses up above with ample storage down below, like the smart rail-fronted storage right next to the dishwasher. This holds the family’s most commonly used dishware and glasses.
Perhaps I am instinctively drawn to this kind of kitchen because I am quite petite and have a hard time making full use of high cabinets anyway. I would rather have a little extra light and head room, and find creative storage options down below.
