Even as Tulsa starts opening back up for business, officials still warn us that we must heed CDC guidelines to lower our chances of contracting/spreading COVID-19. Many home buyers still take a cautious approach when viewing properties. Even before the pandemic, a large percentage of buyers turned to the internet first when looking for homes. Whether online or via a drive-by, the first glimpse most buyers see of your Tulsa home is the view of your front yard. Make the best first impression possible by utilizing these easy curb appeal tips.
Increase Your Curb Appeal
Pretty Yards Attract Buyers
Perhaps the biggest portion of a home’s curb appeal comes from the landscaping. When selling your property, always keep the yard trimmed up and weed-free. If you cannot maintain this on a regular basis, you might want to consider hiring a lawn service…at least until you sell your house. Reseed any bald patches to ensure your lawn stays beautifully green.
Don’t Forget Your Driveway & Walkways
When you mow the lawn, don’t forget to wack the weeds and grass growing in between your driveway and walkways’ expansion joints. Those are the lines that divide up the concrete to allow to the concrete to move with the shifting earth beneath it so that the concrete doesn’t crack or harm anything around it. Trim back any brush along your driveway and walkways to allow a free and clear path to your front door. Hose down the driveway before you take pictures and before someone comes to view the property (if possible). It helps make the concrete look fresh and clean.
Nighttime is the Right Time
Buyers don’t just see your Tulsa home during the day. They might drive by at night. Update your exterior light fixtures with clear glass to ensure the light shines through. Some professionals suggest using a 60-watt bulb to keep the light soft. LED lights tend to give off a harsh bluish tint. Whatever wattage you choose to go with, make sure it’s the same in every light fixture for continuity. Add solar lights along the driveway and walkway for added appeal.
About Your Garage Door
For most homes, the garage door takes up a large chunk of your curb appeal. If a full garage door replacement isn’t in your budget, grab yourself some paint. Match the garage door paint to the color of your trim. Adding a row of windows to the garage door allows light to pour into the garage and is more visually appealing. Check with your local home improvement store to find out about DIY kits that allow you to switch out plain panels for windowed ones.
Show Your Front Door Some Love
Finally, don’t forget the front door. Peeling paint. Old hardware. Scuffs and scratches. Not the best way to entice a buyer inside. Replacing the front door typically costs between $500 and $700 dollars. Painting it costs much less. It’s also your chance to add a pop of color to your front elevation. Make sure you add new hardware once you finish painting, too.
