We are now entering our ninth month of a global pandemic. Parts of Europe went back under lockdown. Some parts of the United States continue working on completely reopening. A by-product of us spending more time in our homes over these past few months is that we find that our focus has shifted about what we consider important and what we do not. Here are a few current Tulsa home trends that will probably be around well after we find a cure for COVID-19. If you plan on selling your Tulsa home anytime soon, keep these in mind when you start preparing your property for the market.
Current Tulsa Home Trends With Staying Power
Hello Suburbia
In the past, people appreciated living near their place of employment. Convenience outweighed living space for some. So they chose a smaller house with a shorter commute time over spacious digs elsewhere. However, many temporary work-from-home situations have become permanent. This eliminates the need for a commute time. (What’s shorter than walking from your bedroom to your home office, right?). But four walls in a small Tulsa home feel claustrophobic. One of the current home trends that may continue for a while is moving from a small city dwelling to a larger suburbia setting.
Outdoor Living Space
Another reason why suburban areas appeal to today’s buyers is because they offer more outdoor living space in their design. Creating a useful outdoor space to congregate provides additional living space without jeopardizing your health by venturing out into large crowds.
Office/Zoom Room
It looks like working from home may be here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future. The “dinner table as work desk” lost its appeal long ago. Who wants to take zoom meetings with a view of a pile of laundry and dirty dishes stacked up behind you? Another home trend that seems to have some staying power is a home office/zoom room. If your Tulsa home lacks enough space for a dedicated office, carve out a niche in the guest room, a closet, or install a “she shed” in the backyard to serve this purpose. Turn it into a “zoom room” by creating a backdrop behind your computer that is pleasing to the eye. Preferably, this space includes a door to keep noise out, includes good lighting, and remains clutter-free for a professional look.
Simple and Clean
Finally, another home trend we see right now is a clean, cozy design. Light walls and clutter-free space with comfy fabrics and soothing textures rule today’s design template. Add candles, soft linens (via throw pillows and warm blankets), lots of green plants, and perhaps an herb garden in the kitchen. People seek out coziness as a refuge from the craziness happening outside of their homes.
Selling your Tulsa home during a pandemic requires a different mindset. Some of the home trends we see right now will be with us for a while to come. To appeal to more buyers, you might want to adopt some of these trends into your current design. When you’re ready to place your Tulsa home on the market, contact me.
