Today we truly got a sneak peak of the new Florence Park Café owned by Jonathan Haring – on 15th Street, just west of Merritt’s Bakery. Jonathan’s staff doesn’t start until May 1st, so he was truly multi-tasking today when we went by for lunch.
The restaurant will be open 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturday. Address is 3142 East 15th Street – close to the 15th & Harvard intersection.
Breakfast will include cinnamon rolls on a daily basis, plus whatever the chef/owner feels like preparing. Since he makes his own bread and pastries, you can bet the daily specials will be whatever is fresh and in season.
For lunch today, we tried several things. My husband Demetrius had a ham and Swiss sandwich AND a ham and cheese quiche. Christie had an Italian black forest ham sandwich and side salad, and I had a turkey sandwich with a cup of tomato basil soup.
Deme and Christie both had freshly made rosemary lemonade, and Christie and I both had rosemary shortbread cookies – so yum. Guess Jonathan has a rosemary plant growing somewhere.
That sounds like a lot – and it was, but we decided we needed to try the mushroom quiche and broccoli quiche before we left – at least we shared.
What I love about this location is that you can watch the food preparation through the glass – food prep is on one side and the seating is on the other. Jonathan says he makes most things fresh daily, and I promise that everything we ate today was delish.
Prices are great. Sandwiches were $6.50 and quiche is $4.00. You can combine soup and salad, quiche and salad or quiche and soup. There are also a few gourmet salads from which to make a meal by itself.

You really can’t go wrong with a café serving homemade bread and pastries, homemade soup AND homemade mayonnaise.
Next time you’re in the Florence Park area – or when Cherry Street restaurants are too busy, just head east another mile and enjoy gourmet food at the Florence Park Café!
