Home Sellers – when do you have to move out?
Recently my home Seller ask me when she had to move out of her house. She was under the impression that she could have 3-4 days after closing to pack and move.
My response, of course, was that she needed to move out PRIOR to closing. After the Buyer has paid you for your house, he/she owns it and will take possession. The keys and garage door openers are passed to the new owner at closing. Their utilities and homeowner’s insurance kicks in at that time.
This seems like a daunting task, but good local moving companies are well equipped to handle this schedule. They usually pack their trucks the day or evening before closing and store the truck until you close on your new home and are ready to move in.
This home Seller’s task is pretty easy. She is moving into a vacant home and the Builder allowed her storage access in the garage. So, Charlotte has moved boxes to her new home that she preferred to transport herself, which is a nice option when you are just moving across town.
A good local moving company is worth their weight in gold when it comes to dealing with last minute scheduling. I highly recommend Andrew Wilson, owner of You Move Me. You can reach him at 918-284-6854. He has moved several of my clients, and I always get rave reviews.
Home Sellers – when do you have to move out?
I did have clients moving to Tulsa from out-of-state that did not need to take possession of the home they purchased right away. They allowed the Seller to take 2-3 days to complete his move. The danger of that situation is the liability – whose insurance pays if the house burns down? It just makes sense to take possession (and responsibility) of a home once you’ve paid for it.
