I joined Active Rain in November 2007 because someone told me I should. My last name is Cain and my username on most online accounts is “razncain.” So, without thinking, I registered on AR as razncain. Nobody is searching for razncain and it has nothing to do with real estate. So, I recently changed it to loricainrealestate, because my name was already taken. The only problem with that is that some links that come up in google now still point to www.activerain.com/razncain, which is, of course a broken link now. And my outside blog is loricaintulsarealestate. WHAT was I thinking?
I joined LinkedIn about the same time or sooner. That profile is loridawncain, which is not extremely useful, because few people know my middle name. Can’t remember why I did that – perhaps loricain was already taken there also.
On Twitter, I’m RealtorLori, and on FaceBook, I’m TulsaRealtor. Can’t remember what I am on Plaxo.
My point is that if you are just beginning to register on all of these social networking sites, think through how you will register and commit to some consistency. I should have tried to register on all of these under LoriCain or LCain. So, before you make a decision as to how you will register your public profile, see what is available on all outlets.
My personal web site is www.LoriCain.com, and I’ve had that for a dozen years. At least I got that one right!
