According to the calendar, we still have just over a month of summer left. (Fall officially starts on September 23rd). But for local schoolchildren, summer is over. Kids in the Tulsa Public Schools system started their new academic year this week. But before you break your piggy bank on school supplies, head out to the Tulsa Backpack Giveaway at Juicemaker Lounge. Then, for fun, visit the Tulsa Maker Faire 2019.
Tulsa Backpack Giveaway
I don’t have to tell you how expensive it can be to outfit your child for a new school year. Clothes. Shoes. Lunchbox. School supplies. Activities fees. PTA dues. It can make a parent cry. And if you have more than one child, the amount doubles…triples…or even more! What to do? Well, I can’t help you with the clothes or school fees. But, Juicemaker Lounge offers up a Tulsa Backpack Giveaway this Saturday, August 24th.
From 11 am to 3 pm, the folks at Juicemaker promise to give away backpacks to the first 250 kids that show up. They filled up each one with awesome back-to-school supplies from Staples. Once you pick up your backpack, visit the face painting booth and let your kids roam free in the bounce house. Grab some lunch while you’re there, too. Get there early before supplies run out!
Tulsa Maker Faire 2019
After you pick up your backpack, head over to Expo Square’s Central Park Hall for the Tulsa Maker Faire 2019. Here, engineers, scientists, artists, and crafters showcase and share their skills to kids of all ages through hands-on exhibits, live demonstrations, and workshops. It’s a fun way to blow off the “back-to-school” blues for your kids. Enter the DIY costume contest at 3 pm for fun and prizes. No pre-fab costumes allowed. Creativity strongly encouraged! While admission’s free, they ask that you register before you attend. This helps them keep track of how many people are coming and the age of their guests.
Lots of family-friendly fun scheduled in Tulsa this weekend. What will you be doing?
