Mother Nature has given our area an absolute beating over the last few days. Luckily, the latest storms seem to be behind us. In fact, the Army Corps of Engineers began scaling back the water release rate at Keystone Dam yesterday, ahead of their original timeline. Even so, we need to stay vigilant as we begin to dry up. Here is the latest Tulsa flood information for residents to be aware of in the upcoming days.
Tulsa Flood Information – May 2019
Tulsa Shelters
The Red Cross shelter located at the Crosstown Church of Christ on Admiral is near capacity. But, if you’ve been flooded out of your Tulsa home, the shelter at Glenpool’s Faith Church on West 171st St is available. If you spot a stranded pet somewhere out on the streets, please contact Tulsa Animal Welfare (918-596-8000 opt 6). For large animals, call 211. These animals will be brought to the temporary animal shelter at the Tulsa Expo Square Fairground Pavilion. 211 also provides an excellent source of Tulsa flood information.
Donations Needed
Want to help out those displaced by the recent floods? Tulsa Community Foundation partnered up with Tulsa Area United Way to create a Tulsa disaster relief fund. All money raised will be used to help local agencies provide food, shelter, and other services to flood victims. Visit the TCF website to donate right now. The animal shelter needs blankets, pet food, and towels. No donation is too small. Please give what you can to help.
Health & Safety Info
Here’s some helpful Tulsa flood information to keep you healthy and safe in flooded areas. First, stay away from any standing water or flooded areas. All sorts of dangerous things can be found here: snakes, debris, sewage. The Tulsa Health Dept offers free tetanus shots at all of its clinics (918-582-9355). If you don’t remember the last time you had a tetanus shot, then it’s time for another one. Then, do not drive around barricades. They’re put up for a reason. You don’t know how deep the water may actually go. Also, an undercurrent could take hold of your vehicle and sweep it away with you inside. Find another way around.
