Hello Everyone! It has been an amazing summer! I just finished teaching the summer session at The Tulsa Girls Art School (TGAS) and it was beyond my expectations! The 20 students that attended our summer session were all really wonderful and worked so hard to create some beautiful art projects. Our students went on many field trips to Gilcrease, Philbrook, Oklahoma City Museum of Art and even an overnight trip to the Dallas Museum of Art and The Nasher Sculpture Garden in Dallas, Texas! The girls blow my mind to see how they are maturing as visual artists- they were calling my name in excitement in the museums saying "Look at this Picasso sculpture Matt!" or "This Georgia O’Keefe painting is my Favorite!" Yes- these girls have come a long way from their frist days at TGAS learning the proper way to clean their brushes! I am very proud of them!!
One of our projects this summer is a collaboration with The Circle Cinema. This was our third year to go to The Circle Cinema and see some wonderful films, then create an art show inspired by what we saw. Our first show was "Alice and Wonderland", last summer was "The Red Balloon and The Bluebird"- both shows were amazing and tremendous successes. This summer the girls were inpspired by a local band’s music video- The band is called "ColourMusic" and the video was called "Circles". The students were really inspired by this video (you’ll see the video at the opening!) and we created 24 20"x20" square paintings, each portraying a circular object. The painting range from coffee cups, bowling balls, abstract circles and even a collage of bottle caps! The girls also worked with a local fused glass jewelry artist named Robin Tilly Green- each student made 2 pieces of dichroic fused glass necklaces- one to keep and one to sell- so we will have some jewelry designed by our students for sale also!! We hope you’ll make the time to come by our art show- bring the family! Free to the public and refreshments provided! Come out and support our girls and Tulsa’s next generation of visual artists!!
Hope everyone is staying cool and enjoying the summer! And remeber to always buy local art and support our wonderful local Tulsa artists! Check out our website at www.tulsagirlsartschool.org. Oh and please forward this email to anyone that you think would like to attend this show!
