This year, so much of our lives were touched by this global pandemic. Work went virtual. School went virtual. House-hunting went virtual. Even charity runs went virtual. So it actually makes sense that organizers turned Tulsa Stock the Station into a virtual event for 2020.
Tulsa Stock the Station 2020
Families and individuals struggle with food insecurity throughout the year every year. It’s an unfortunate fact. But this year, food banks received a major increase in food requests. Millions of families found themselves in dire straights when companies began furloughing people as shutdowns hit our state.
Last year, the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma served up to 464,000 meals a week. This year, that increased to 600,000 per week. With Thanksgiving coming up next week, they need your help now more than ever to feed these hungry men, women, and children. But this assistance is also needed for every other week of the year.
How You Can Help
You can help the City of Tulsa and our local police and fire departments with their Tulsa Stock the Station event by donating money online. They use all money raised to buy food for hungry families in the Tulsa area. Each $1 raised purchases the equivalent of four meals. The George Kaiser Family Foundation pledged to match all funds up to $150,000. So, every dollar raised helps.
Anytime between now and December 11th, visit Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma’s website here. Click on the “Give Now” button to make your donation. If you’d like to get the word out there, consider creating your own fundraiser campaign and advertise it on your social media accounts.
