Statistics show that approximately 20% of Tulsa residents live below the poverty line. That is one in every five people. With the holidays looming right around the corner, local charitable organizations feel the urgency to help feed the less fortunate even more. But they need your help to do so. If you wish to share your blessings with our impoverished neighbors, please consider donating to these Tulsa Thanksgiving food drives.
Tulsa Thanksgiving Food Drives
Christian Ministers Alliance
The Christian Ministers Alliance gives away free turkeys and holiday trimmings to local families in need at Booker T Washington High School at 6 pm on November 22nd. They ask for frozen turkeys, canned cranberry sauce, pre-made rolls, canned vegetables, bags of potatoes and sweet potatoes, boxes of stuffing, chickens, and hams. For information on where to donate these items, please contact Reverend WR Casey at (918) 951-7407. Monetary donations are also welcome. They will be used to purchase food for the Thanksgiving food giveaway. Simply make your check out to CMI, Inc and send it to PO Box 2095, Tulsa, OK 74101.
John 3:16 Mission
Each year, the John 3:16 Mission passes out thousands of turkeys in special food baskets for local residents in need. They pass these baskets out on November 22nd from the Mission Family & Youth Center on MLK Blvd between November 25th and 27th. But they need to prepare these baskets ahead of time. So, they request that any resident who can spare it, simply add an extra turkey, stuffing, and/or other canned food items to your regular weekly shopping trip at participating stores in the upcoming weeks. These stores will set that food aside for volunteers from John 3:16 to pick up. For a complete list of participating stores and dates for donations, please visit John 3:16’s website here.
Iron Gate Tulsa
Iron Gate serves a hot, fresh-prepared meal for Tulsans in need every single day of the year at their soup kitchen on Archer. (Hunger never takes a holiday.) They also open up their grocery pantry for families to “shop” on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Their Kids Pantry passed out over 11,000 kids packs of healthy kids snacks last year alone. They use monetary donations to purchase food at a discount to distribute to the community. For example, a donation of just $25 allows them to serve seven complete meals at their daily breakfast. To donate, please visit Iron Gates website.
